Maintenance & Repair
Most minor maintenance and repairs can be carried out on-site.
For more complex work, I remove the mechanism from the instrument and carry out the work at my workshop.
If your question is not listed in the frequently asked questions below, or if you would like to discuss another topic with me, please feel free to reach out to me.
Below you will find some examples of piano maintenance and repairs:
Regulation of the mechanic (see other point for more information)
Maintenance service (see other point for more information)
Adjustment of the keys
Solving pedal related issues
Voicing or toning of the hammers
Replacing a few strings
The measurements and friction-points are properly adjusted, so that your instrument plays smoother and lighter. These spaces tend to change due to fluctuations in humidity or through the frequent playing of the instrument.
The adjustment of its mechanic can be done on site. Adjustments are done in joint consultation, for example when you think that your piano is playing too heavily, then I can adjust it for you.
After these adjustments, the instrument will play optimally again.
Maintenance service is more than just adjusting the mechanic.
During a maintenance service I check the entire instrument and take the mechanism to the workshop. I only have to remove the mechanic from the piano/grand piano, so the instrument itself does not have to be transported. This means that you unfortunately cannot use the instrument during this period.
Below is an example of the work that falls under a maintenance service:
Cleaning of the entire inside and mechanic
Checking of all friction points and made smooth again
Sanding and intoning of the hammer headsÂ
Replacing worn parts
Regulation of the mechanic
The costs of a maintenance service depend on the necessary work. These are mutually agreed upon in advance.
If you have any doubts as to whether maintenance is required, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
When I come to tune the piano I also look at the condition of the mechanic. If I notice anything, I will always discuss this with you, so that you can decide if and when you want to do something about it.
You may already notice specific keys do not play perfectly or that they do not respond in the way you expect. Please let me know about this when making the appointment, so I can plan enough time to look at the problem together with you.
Some problems can be addressed immediately, others may require more work. For such cases, we can schedule another appointment.
The optimal humidity is between 40% and 70%, and does not fluctuate too much. You can place a hygrometer on or near the piano to regularly monitor the humidity in the room.
In addition, it is of utmost importance that the piano is not placed near a heat source (heating, fireplace, sun, etc.).
